Form 5 were very lucky indeed to have a visit from Gemma, the nutritionist from Chartwells, the school’s catering company. She ran two workshops for us. In the first Heathy Eating, we reviewed the need to eat healthily and the main food groups. The children loved making a rainbow tortilla out of fresh vegetables, chickpeas, cheese and yoghurt. She explained the benefit of having a very colourful meal to help ensure the best balance of vitamins and minerals. In the second workshop Sugar Savvy, we learned about the risks of having too much sugar in our diet. She suggested some healthy swops we might do and then introduced us to chocolate hummus. Several lucky children helped make the hummus and we all got to taste it with apple slices. Delicious!
