P2 perform Dragon Days

A wonderful production!

Mator with pompomsP2 performing the play “Dragon Days”

The play starts with the villagers entering onto the stage and tripping over – a frequent occurrence in the village of Stumbledorf as we shall see as the story unfolds. Its villagers are then introduced and we meet the butcher handing out a large steak for the dragon, the baker with her overcooked pie and the oompah band player raising everyone’s spirits with the sound of his yodeling. We hear the farmer giving Tommy advice on how to fight the dragon, the teacher challenging the class with some mental arithmetic and the doctor panicking at the prospect of being fried!

The villagers all tremble as they hear the roar from the man-eating dragon living in the mountains. In an attempt to keep the dragon happy, the villagers leave a basket of goodies every month on a day they call “Dragon Day”. The old man enters and holds up “The Chronicles of Stumbledorf” which tells tales of brave attempts to hunt and kill the beast. A mysterious group of secret agents from MI 007.5 appear on the stage intent on finding the dragon but they accidentally zap each other. Then comes the ninja warrior sneaking up on the dragon to chop him up with her sword but, Stumbledorf being Stumbledorf, she trips over.

A witch then enters cackling with a cauldron, and prophesizes that the village will be saved by a rumble. Enter Old Ma and her son, Tommy Rumble, who immediately becomes the toast of the village and the one to save them from the dragon. He is taken through his paces by a personal trainer in an attempt to get fit, and we see the lovestruck girls cheering him on.

Gilda, the goat herd, then runs onto the stage worried that two of her goats have disappeared. The boys step forward with a giant dragon’s claw, and claim falsely that the goats have been eaten by the dragon. The mayor calls a meeting, and it is agreed that Tommy should be sent off to kill the dragon. Gilda stumbles over the claw, and realises that the claw has been smeared with tomato ketchup, and that the boys have tricked Tommy. Gilda determines to stop Tommy before he confronts the dragon.

Meanwhile on the mountain, Tommy trips (again) and knocks himself unconscious. The dragon, Boris, then appears and, seeing the wee laddie needs help, attempts to move him into his cave to protect him from the brewing storm. Gilda enters and, seeing the dragon bending over Tommy, fears that Tommy is going to be eaten. She soon realises that the dragon is not the vicious creature everyone has made him out to be. Boris is really a peaceful fellow, and is sad because he is living alone and has no friends.

At the same time the villagers set off up the mountain to face the dragon. They find themselves trapped by the mighty wind and the wild dance of swirling snowflakes. Suddenly they hear an ominous, deep grumbling as an avalanche descends towards them. Boris appears but Tommy reassures the frightened villagers that Boris is their friend, and they follow Boris as he leads them to safety in his cave until the avalanche passes. The final scene sees a happy Boris leading the villagers down the mountain melting a path through the snow with his fiery breath. Our story, expertly told by our narrators, is brought to a close with another catchy song.

Well done, P2, for putting on such a remarkable performance and for entertaining us all with your wonderful singing, and fantastic acting. The costumes were amazing, and the staging was impressive. Thank you to all those who contributed to making this incredible performance such a memorable one. Some priceless moments were shared, and the children should be extremely proud of all they have achieved. Hollywood beckons!
