Fettes Orchestral Day is always a highlight so it was wonderful to be back for the first time since 2019. 34 players from F6, 7 and 8 took part and it was lovely to see so many parents and siblings joining us for the concert at the end of the day. I am sure they will agree with me that the children gave a splendidly assured performance of 4 really quite tricky orchestral pieces plus a choral piece that they had learnt in just a few hours of rehearsal on the day. We also enjoyed solo performances from senior Fettes pupils, including past Cargilfield pupil, Bethany on the violin. It was altogether a fantastic day and the children showed impressive maturity and sense of purpose in tackling this unfamiliar challenge - whilst also obviously having a lovely time! I know my colleagues at Fettes felt that more was achieved than they had expected. Particular fun was had with the volunteer conductors – well done Anjelinaa and George, both clearly maestros of the future!Thank you to Fettes for their warm welcome and hospitality.
