New Latin Teacher

New Latin Teacher

A warm welcome to Mrs MacLennan!

Introducing Henrietta MacLennan, a Latin teacher who is dedicated to instilling a passion for the language in her students.

For Henrietta, Latin is more than just a language, it is a subject that encompasses ideas, history, literature, skills, and decoding, which filter into various aspects of our lives today. Her love for Latin is evident in her fascination with compound Latin words, which showcase the logic and brevity of the language.

Having taught Latin, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient Greek for over 15 years, Henrietta's focus at Cargilfield is to get to know her students individually and to learn about them as learners. She aims to support them in achieving their fullest potential in Latin and beyond. Henrietta believes in Cargilfield's ethos of encouraging students to find and develop their interests and talents. She highlights that the school provides many academic and extra-curricular opportunities for students to explore.

Outside of work, Henrietta is a dog and sport lover and a BIG Arsenal fan. She also enjoys playing her saxophone, though it feels a bit neglected lately. Her family includes three children named Isla, Ada, and Olive, and two chickens named Rosemary and Watermelon. As a child, Henrietta dreamt of winning Wimbledon and becoming a politician, but she is content with her decision to pursue teaching.

Favourite Latin Word: Magnanimus, a combination of "magnus" (great, big) and "animus" (mind or soul), Favourite Children's Book: Odd Dog Out by Rob Biddulph.

Henrietta's enthusiasm for Latin and teaching is contagious, and she inspires her students to reach their full potential in all aspects of their lives.

We are delighted to welcome her!
