On an overcast but mild Autumnal morning P2 set out on a visit to Craigmillar Castle as part of their topic on Castles. The castle is now a ruin, but it was the home of the Preston Family who occupied the castle in the 1500s. We passed through the ‘portcullis’ at the entrance and made our way across the grassy area to the main entrance built into the inner curtain wall and from here we explored the castle and all its rooms! We learned about the battlements, the dungeons and even medieval loos, and we enjoyed a lovely picnic in the castle grounds.
