2ndXV lose a thriller!

A terrific first game of the season

On a gorgeous September afternoon our 2nd XV started their campaign at Merchiston. After a promising warm up, the boys were playing up-hill in the first half. The Cramond men started nicely after a mere 650 days without competitive rugby, William made up for lost time with some abrasive carries resulting in an early score for Archie. Same combination, same result occurred a few minutes later following some superb interplay from James, Harry and Zain which led to a second for Archie. With moments left in the first half, Kit scored an opportunistic try and meant a 21-0 lead for the 2nd XV at the break.

For Merchiston this will probably go down as their Istanbul moment… It truly was a game of two halves (excuse the pun) and Merchiston began to make inroads into our defensive line, shifting the ball nicely to the wing. With time up, the Cramond men had given everything and were 26-21 up and in control of the ball. Seconds later, Merchiston had broken free and scored a fabulous match winning try to steal the game at the death. A fantastic match, fabulously refereed, between two very good sides and we look forward to the return fixture later in the term. A great team effort and plenty to be very encouraged about.
