U11 Rugby drew with Merchiston

A terrific game of rugby!

Two talented young teams of rugby players met today for a fast-paced and exciting game of rugby. Both teams showed a lot of improvement from their last game a couple of months ago at the start of the season. There was more shape and organisation to the game, with some committed running and tackling from both teams. The game ebbed and flowed throughout with Merchiston scoring the first few tries. The Cargilfield boys fought their way back into the game in the first half and managed to score a number of well-worked tries. In the second half, Cargilfield started strongly scoring a couple of quick tries but the Merchi boys showed a lot of determination to force their way back into the game and scoring enough tries to end the game with a draw.

All the boys played well and there were good signs of improvement. Some thunderous tackles from Caspian and Rafa set the standard in defence, which was good on the whole. Our rucking and jackling work was very good today and we won a number of turn-overs, particularly from Monty. In attack, everyone wanted to run with the ball, which is understandable but sometimes we ran too far when passing would have been a better option. Overall, it was a good game of rugby and it was great to see the boys enjoying themselves. Well played.
