U10 Rugby at Merchiston Festival

Lots of great rugby, boys!

We took two Under-10 teams to Merchiston to take part in their annual festival.

Our A-team played against Loretto, Merchiston and St Mary’s A teams over the course of the afternoon. The first match proved to be the toughest as the boys warmed up to the standard required. Loretto managed to score a couple of tries near the start but the Cargilfield boys raised their defensive game and managed to get themselves back into the match with some marvellous runs from James and Oliver, and leading the defensive effort with some impressive tackling were Arthur and Theo. The matched ended in a narrow 3-4 loss. The second match against Merchiston was a touch-rugby match and the boys kept maintained a magnificent amount of pressure on the opposition to force a 5-1 win. Their final match was a full contact match against St Mary’s. After conceding a simple try in the opening seconds, the boys came back strong to engineer a confident 7-4 win, with excellent running by the whole team, including Arlo and Hamish, who put in excellent performances.

The B-team also played two contact matches and one touch-rugby match. Their first match was against Fettes A’s, where despite losing overall, they managed to score a couple of marvellous tries against the stronger team. In the second match, they took on Fettes B’s, who they managed to beat with great running and impressive tackles. Finally, they played a touch rugby match against Loretto B’s, losing by a couple of tries but making a fine effort nonetheless.

Well done to all the boys for commitment and determination.
