A good first hockey game for the boys!

U12 Boys Hockey v George Watson’s

Result 1:1

After a long term of rugby, the boys played an even and well-contested game of hockey at George Watson’s. I was impressed with how quickly the boys started the game, working their way into many scoring opportunities and threatening their keeper from the outset. We just couldn’t quite find the finish we needed, though and we let a number of strong scoring chances go.

Zak, Ewan and Conrad played really well in the mid-field, working hard and dominating the middle of the pitch. They linked up quite well with Paddy and Kit on the wings but looking for the space out wide is an area for us to work on. After sustained pressure, a goal eventually came and I thought we would follow on with more. Not to be, though, and all credit to the Watson’s boys who took the game to us and scored a good counter-attack goal. Oliver, Sylvan and George defended very well, today and made some great interventions to stop more attacks. Archie made some strong kicks too and it was great to hear him communicating with his team. Thabo came on and also played well with some good touches.

The second half was quite tense with both teams realising the next goal could do it. We pressed a lot and were more ruthless with our shots in the D, but kept hitting them straight at the keeper who, to be fair, made some good saves. Despite a lot of pressure and dominating the D area, we couldn’t find that precious second goal. It was a good game though and it was great to see such excellent work-rate off the ball. Well played, boys.
