2ndXV beat St Mary's, Melrose

A super game of rugby!

Our 2nd XV were back in action this week, with a long trip down to the borders to face St Mary’s Melrose. The boys managed to get the journey out of the legs quickly and thanks to some incredible defensive work from Harry, Fred and Monty, we managed to get on the scoresheet with Theo dancing through their defence to register our first points. The first half maintained that familiar rhythm, St Mary’s would pull together lots of phases, but ultimately our defensive work rate would force a turnover leading to a Cargilfield breakaway. Jamie benefitted three times as a result of this and gave Cargilfield a 28-7 lead at the break.

The second half brought changes, but with that lots of opportunities for players to try new positions. Credit to the boys, they played some fantastic stuff in both attack and defence. Alexander and Fred both crossed for outstanding individual tries, but also, alongside Charles contributed effectively in our defensive tenacity. A work on for the boys next week is to move the ball into space before contact: that being said, it was an outstanding performance and momentum is building nicely as we approach half term.

POTM: Charles and Alexander

Score: 42-19

Scorers: Theo, Alexander, Fred, Dexter, Jamie x3
