2ndXV lost to Merchiston

A terrific contest!

On a brisk autumnal afternoon our 2nd XV looked to continue their unbeaten run with a challenging match up against Merchiston. Last time out, Cargilfield lost a pulsating fixture at the start of the season by a couple of scores and were looking to enact revenge for that loss. Merchiston kicked off and after multiple phases of good possession Cargilfield lost the ball and two quick passes later Merchiston were under the posts against the run of play. Another score for Merchiston quickly followed and earlier on in the season, that would have been that and we might well have crumbled. Different story today, Felix and Kit led the way back up the field, which led to Rufus powering over from close range. Another sustained spell of Cargilfield possession led to an outstanding burst from Jamie, with Monty on hand to dot down the ball and give Cargilfield the lead. In the final play of the first half Merchiston scored a well crafted try to lead 15-14 at the break.

The second half unfortunately followed a similar path to the first. Merchiston scored two rapid tries that took the game away from Cargilfield. We had chances to finish off a number of well worked and patient possessions, but unfortunately today was not going to be our day. Jamie powered over in the last play of the game for a deserving consolation for his efforts. Overall, this was an immensely positive performance and is testament to how every single boy has improved over the course of the term. We have a tour to look forward to and build towards, plus a final game with Merchiston before Christmas, where we hope to run them close.

Final Score: 21-41

Scorers: Monty, Rufus, Jamie

POTM: Kit & Felix
