Our first match of the season was a fairly evenly matched but competitive fixture with St Mary’s.

We started strongly and Emily in Centre and Olivia at WA worked well to move the ball up to our shooters. We pulled ahead with 2 early goals from Scarlett and Lottie.

In the second quarter, we pulled further ahead as St Mary’s began to find they feet and made a brilliant shot on goal from the back of the D. Clara and Freya played well at WD and were much more confident around the mid court making several well timed interceptions and using her space well. Athena dominated the defence, showing excellent court coverage.

The second half was a little less positive for us. I think a few of the drills we had put into practice so well in the first half began to be forgotten as our focus seemed to be on speed and sending the ball too far up the court where it was intercepted by the opposition. St Mary’s started to gain ground, although Ci Ci saved the quater with an excellent goal from a tricky spot right under the post.

It was anyone’s game in the final quarter. We had lost our edge and were a little unfocused. St Mary’s on the other hand started to come into their own and got closer and closer.
