U9 Tigers v St Mary’s

This was our first netball match of the season and excitement was high on both sides. We were playing High 5 netball so we had an opportunity to play in different positions and as we had 8 players, we had a scorer, a time keeper and marking the centre pass. We were all kept busy!

In the first quarter Georgia, as centre, got the ball moving very well with Minty and Isabelle S assisting. We were able to get a few attempts on goal and Isabelle S scored our first competitive goal. In the second quarter Isabelle RD as our new centre proved very mobile around the court opening up possibilities well. Issy S. worked hard in defence moving that ball down the court and Georgia and Maria scored. Maria was surprised and delighted to do so. We were 3-0 ahead!

The final 2 quarters were more evenly matched. St Mary’s were passing well and moving into good spaces. We needed to defend more closely and ensure players were marked. St Mary’s scored a fine goal bringing our final score to 3-1. We were pleased with the win but we do know that we need to learn how to defend more closely and must spread out more. It was a good start to the season and both teams enjoyed the game. Well done, girls!
