U11A Rounders beat Loretto

A super first game of the season!

U11A Rounders v Loretto

Won 12 - 7

First match of the season and Cargilfield began by batting first. On our fourth ball, Zinnia was our first scorer, giving it a great big hit and giving great confidence to the team. Unfortunately, as Freya hit the ball, it bounced backwards off the bat into her eye and Lottie was run out but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits; Scarlett came back and scored a super rounder. We gained a few due to no-balls and an obstruction, plus another couple of rounders from Olivia and Scarlett (again!) putting us in a very strong position of having scored six and half rounders this first innings.

Our turn at fielding came and with Emily as bowler, she did a great job. It always takes time to get into the swing of bowling and she can feel pleased with her accuracy. Lottie made some excellent catches to stump out batters at fourth, with Thalia showing great ability to read the game. The superstar of this fielding inning has to be Livia though – catching out three of the Loretto players with her amazing hand-eye co-ordination; so impressive! It is no wonder that Loretto only scored 4 rounders.

Our second turn of batting arrived and it was clear that we were feeling somewhat confident. Zinnia scored 2 rounders, with Scarlett scoring one; Olivia and Athena scored half each. Another rounder was scored with no balls, with a half being given due to a Loretto obstruction. A solid five and half rounders meant that we were heading into our last fielding session with a fantastic 12 rounders under our belt.

But it really was this last fielding session that showcased what a fabulous team we were. Olivia, on first post, stumped out the first batter, with Emily catching out the second. Freya (who returned after her injury) did a fantastic job of playing deep, Rosanna actively watched and stepped in at the post when her team mate went for the ball. Furthermore, Lottie made a fine fielder, stumping batters out along with Athena and Scarlett clearly communicating with each other as they manned second post.

I was so proud of them and look forward to seeing them develop over the course of the term; well done, one and all!
