It was very wet having had a heavy downpour moments before the start and the ground wasn’t suitable for hard ball cricket. We therefore agreed to play a softball pairs game on the driest (!) part of the square, winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Wilfred and Freddie opened the bowling and were incredibly economical. In general, our bowling was very strong and accurate and we took 16 wickets over the course of the total 24 overs reducing the visiting side to just 36 runs. The top bowler was Dexter with his 3 wickets for just 4 runs and the top fielder was Harry with 3 terrific catches.

Whilst it was dry, we went straight into the second innings with Jamie and Theo opening in style, scoring an impressive 42 run partnership. Rufus and Kit scored 35 with Rufus scoring two excellent boundaries and Tristan and Freddie were the 3rd best partnership with a score of 32 runs. Zak and Dexter both played some nice shots and Fred came in at the end to score 11 runs in two overs. As a team, we only lost 2 wickets meaning we finished on 170 runs, giving us a very comfortable win.

Well done, boys; a great shame we couldn’t get a hard ball game in but there will be plenty more opportunities for you this season.
