U9 Rounders Wednesday 17^th May 2023

Cargilfield v St Mary’s (7 – 10 ½)

On a lovely, warm and calm afternoon the U9 Panthers team, took to the Gillespie Astro for a match against the away team from St Mary’s, Melrose. Only our second match of the season, it was a lovely afternoon and showed the children are making super progress.

Cargilfield won the toss and chose to field first. Some strong bowling from Esme and Thandie keeping the back stop, the girls made a strong start. However, there were some good hitters from St Mary’s and they were able to clock up quite a few ½ rounders by getting to second. Anastasia did a grand job on base to try to stop these.

In our first innings, the girls did well getting to grips with a very strong bowler who was fast and accurate. However, Georgia, Eleora and Serena all managed to score full runners to leave us with 4 ½ rounds and able to chase a lead.

St Mary’s were less strong in the second half with some superb fielding from Emilie to stop the opposition from scoring. Maria also did a sterling job at backstop. The visitors only managed to score 3 ½ in their second innings.

Going in to bat and chasing a lead, Serena managed to score another full rounder, and there were a few ½ rounders. Even though we weren’t able to chase down the lead, we had a great afternoon and there is lots of potential in the team. Well done!
