A close encounter

U11 Cricket v Merchiston

We took one of our Under-11 teams to play against Merchiston - another two teams were away at Belhaven. The boys played a pairs game with the hard ball. For some of our players this was their first time playing in a hard ball match, so a particularly useful experience for them.

Captain for the match, Caspian, elected to bat first, and our first pair, Oliver T and Arthur, took to the field to see what they could notch up. They had a competent little innings, in which they didn't concede their and made 12 runs in their three-over allocation. Stuart and Arlo played some great shots, and ran a good number of singles to make a total of 25 runs. Theo and Leo also had a particularly useful innings making 21, whilst Toby and Caspian's pairing resulted in 37 runs, which included two sixes by Caspian.

At the end of the innings, Cargilfield had a total of 95 runs to defend.

All the boys had a turn to bowl, but it was Stuart whose performance particularly stood out, as he took 3 wickets in his spell and two catches in the game. Oliver T and Arthur had hugely economical spells, only conceding a net score of 1 run in total over the two overs they each bowled.

Despite the teams best efforts, and heroics at times, the were unable to stem the flow of runs enough, as Merchiston ended in 114 runs to win by 19.

The boys support for each other was pleasing to see, particularly as they were under pressure near the end. Well done to all the boys for their contribution, and particular congratulations to Stuart and Caspian who were our best performers on the day.
