Won by 15 runs

With a nice trip across to Belhaven, the afternoon was going to be a nice one. A lovely open pitch looking straight across the sea with glorious sunshine. After losing the toss we were put into bat and Timo and Monty opened up. A very tough start for the pair as we lost a wicket first ball but this did not put them off. With some great striking by Monty, at the end of the first 4 overs, we were on a score of 18. Seb and William then came in and pushed the scoring rate up slightly but unfortunately also lost 1 wicket. Williams eyes then lit up as a loopy ball was bowled and he smashed it for a six. The score at the end of this pair was 42. Freddie and Finlay then came to the crease and faced some of their better bowlers. Runs dried up and a wicket fell but they managed to add a couple of runs to the score which is what was needed. The was at 49 just over half way through the innings. Ethan and Salman then came to the crease and they had a few dot balls that were all separated by a couple of fours and well ran singles. Unfortunately, another wicket was lost which meant that the score was reduced slightly after having a good partnership to 64. The ‘big hitters’ then came in, as they called themselves when pairing up, and pushed the score at a great rate when jack decided to hit the ball. Geordie then played a supportive role and when jack couldn’t reach the boundary and Geordie was on strike, he took a single to get jack back on strike. Geordie then joined the power hitting and we raced up to a final score of 91.

Timo and Monty then opened the bowling and bowled very well despite being a couple of extras. Monty took a wicket within his first over and then a run out came in the 4th over as they managed to restrict the runs. A mix up with the batters meant they tried to run 2 but instead one stood in his crease whilst the other batter joined him at the wrong end. After the first pair, the score was 10. Seb and William then came onto bowl and a few extras cost the dearly. Unfortunately, no wickets came which meant Belhaven were able to build their score up to 26 after the second pair. Freddie and Finlay then came on and also struggled with the ball with the same as the previous pair with bowling a few extras. This was also some of the best batting that had been displayed all game as the Belhaven batters managed to race their total up to 79 at the end of the third pair trailing by 12. With Ethan and Salman putting the ball in good areas, this helped the boys to bring back a little bit of belief and fight as a wicket was taken by Salman in the second over for this pair. Unfortunately, 2 fours and a couple of singles took the total up to 87 trailing by 3. Jack and Geordie then came onto bowl and bowled amazingly. Putting the ball in the right aeas meant that they only scored 2 runs from 2 overs with the loss of 2 wickets which meant 8 runs were taken off the score before the last 2 overs were bowled. The boys believed they could do it and they did. Another wicket from Jack proved to be vital as this put Cargilfield into the driving seat and felt comfortable going into the final over where only 2 singles were scored which meant Belhaven finished on a score of 76. Great effort by all the boys finishing off a very tightly contested game.
