U11B Cricket v Fettes

Lost by 15 runs

Under-11Bs hosted Fettes for a soft-ball pairs match in what was their first mixed team match of the term. Fettes elected to field first, so Cargilfield set about trying to build the biggest total they could in their 20 overs. It was a shaky start, however, and after eight overs the scoreboard only showed four runs - there had been seven wickets, each costing five runs. Six of the wickets were runouts, which could have been avoided with more astute decision-making and better communication between partners. Nevertheless, great shots were being played throughout and three strong partnerships brought the total up to 66 by the end of the innings. Stuart and David's partnership of 26 was the highest.

Defending such a low total was always going to be a tall order but the quality of the fielding and bowling kept Cargilfield within touch of making that a reality. Scarlett took an amazing catch with a half-dive and wickets by her, Stuart and Cecilia helped to peg back Fettes' score a little. Unfortunately for the home team, a couple of big overs to end the match allowed the visitors to surpass the score and end on 91.
