U12 Cricket beat Fettes

An excellent team performance, boys!

Cargilfield U12XI 143-3 (Rafa 39 rtd, Monty 18 rtd)

Fettes 60 all out

Cargilfield won by 83 runs

What a glorious summer’s afternoon we had over at Fettes – the perfect day for cricket! With F8 busy in the midst of their CE exams, it was the U12s who had a match today and it was a real pleasure to head over to our friends at Fettes for a game of 20/20. We won the toss and batted first and unfortunately Theo was out first ball of the innings to a straight one which he did not move his feet to; however, that was the end of the wickets falling until the 18th over as Rafa and Monty put on an unbeaten partnership of 81 in ten overs before they were both retired; both played some excellent shots and they ran especially well between the wickets with good early calling. Yes, the bowling was wayward, but they were watchful for the odd straight one and quick to punish anything wide or short. This brought in James and Charles and they grew in confidence in their time at the wicket, again running well between the wickets and they batted well through to the 15th over when I retired them too. This brought in Archie who played some super shots through the off side to push our score up towards 140, and Jamie also hit some impressive shots before he was unfortunately run out off the penultimate ball of the innings! However, 143 off 20 overs would take some chasing, and so it proved.

After six overs, Fettes had subsided to 24 for 5 and the game was over. Alexander bowled really well, taking 2 for 14 in his three overs: accurate and well flighted legspin which the Fettes batsmen were unable to cope with. At the other end, Wilfred took 2 for 11, bowling straight and that was the key difference in that all of our bowlers bowled straight and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and we bowled them out for 60. I was impressed with the cricket we played this afternoon: we bowled and batted extremely well, but we also fielded well and we comprehensively out played Fettes in all departments and fully deserved to win. There is a lot of potential in this team and with another winter of indoor nets ahead, the prospects for next summer are exciting indeed!

Very well played today, boys. It was a lovely afternoon in the sunshine and you played some excellent cricket!
