U11A Cricket beat Carlton CC

A super game in the sunshine!

Cargilfield U11AXI beat Carlton CC by 16 runs

(Pairs Match)

Cargilfield 301-6 (Caspian 28, Oliver 16)

Carlton 285-7 Caspian 2-0-5-2)

On what was a very warm and sunny Saturday morning, we headed over to Grangeloan to play Carlton CC in a pairs match. We chose to bat first and we got off to a terrific start as Oliver soon got the scoreboard ticking over with some excellent pull shots to the boundary, and we moved further ahead when Caspian came in and played some sumptuous shots through the covers, playing the ball on its merit and getting right across in to line. It was a pleasure to watch him bat, especially as he was up against some of Carlton’s better bowlers. We lost 6 wickets in total, and one or two of us need to remember not to move to leg side and so let the bowler see your stumps; keep that back foot still and move your front foot. However, 301 would take some chasing, and so it proved.

In reply, Carlton lost 7 wickets and ended up 16 runs short in the end. They had some useful batsmen, but our senior players stepped up to the mark and stemmed the run rate, although we conceded 53 extras in total which was a little disappointing. Backing up the throw, doing a long barrier when the ball comes to you and being alert in the field, concentrating on every ball are very important aspects of fielding and definitely something we can improve upon before the next match. However, the wickets were shared out and the final pair were unable to up the rate to get close to our total.

I did enjoy taking you all today. You played some good cricket in parts, although there are a few things to improve on!

Well played, chaps!
