U11A Girls Cricket beat St George's

A super game of cricket!

Girls U11A Cricket v St. Georges

Won by 9 runs

It was a great pleasure to host St. Georges for a pairs cricket match on the Gillespie Astro on Wednesday. Both sets of girls were most enthuastic about the match, which made for a great atmosphere on the day. The visitors elected to field first and put Cargilfield in to bat. Glory and Isla kicked off the proceedings, battling their way through the first over but having a great second over to get the score going in the right direction. Bea and Alice took over from them and managed to add some useful runs to the total in their innings, without losing any wickets in the process. Zinnia and Clara were next in; they faced a skillful bowler for their first over but managed to pull things back in their direction in their second over. The penultimate pair were Cecilia and Freya who got some great shots in and coupled this with some excellent running, making the highest scoring partnership for the home team. Finally, Rosanna and Emily rounded things off; they had to face the best bowler on the opposition, whose over they survived but they manged to make the most of their final over to leave Cargilfield on a total of 48 runs in 10 overs.

St George's came in to bat and got off to a strong start, scoring 17 runs in their first 3 overs until Zinnia was able to secure the first wicket of the match, which pegged their run-rate back. Cecilia, Rosanna, Glory and Bea then contributed 4 great overs between them, so the score was still on 17 after the 8th over. St Georges had saved their most capable batter till last but even her heroics weren't enough to reach the target and the visitors were short by 9 runs at the end. Well done to all the girls who participated and for the great spirit in which the game was played.
