U11 Boys win Cricket Scotland Primary Cup

A wonderful day of cricket!

On a glorious June day our U11A Squad headed up north to take part in the Scottish Primary Schools Cricket Festival in Perth. The boys started slowly against Strathallan with the bat, but the bowling, which would become a feature of the day allowed the team to sneak home in our first game. Two dominant victories followed with Caspian excelling with bat and ball, whilst James was keeping well behind the stumps.

We moved out of our group into the cup semi-final against Dumbarnie Primary School. The boys bowled first and limited Dumbarnie to 67 off their 10 overs. A powerful batting display from Jamie M, Jamie W Edward and James led the boys to another comfortable victory. Ardvreck played George Watsons in the other semi final and Watsons came out on top.

With Watsons winning the toss in the Edinburgh derby, they put the Cargilfield men into bat in the final. The boys felt the pressure and played within themselves, with wickets falling regularly, but a last pair fight back from Caspian and Oliver salvaged a respectable first innings score. Thereafter, the boys were magnificent. Watsons started strongly, but the bowlers kept us in the fight and the team worked like mad for each other in the field. Caspian and Jamie W’s middle overs were superb, taking between them 5 wickets in 10 balls, including a catch of the season by Hamish. Belief started to grow, but when Oliver got hit for a 6 off the first ball of the final over, nerves started creeping in for the rest of the group, however Oliver nonchalantly bowled the remaining 4 balls, conceding only one run. Cargilfield won by 12 runs and won the whole event. Well done, boys!
