U9/10 Hockey v Loretto

Lions won 1:0

Tigers lost 0:9

There was lots of excitement at Loretto as the Under 9s played their first ever match. The Lions played first, and it must have been one of the closest halves ever! Clara, Izzie and Isla battled very hard, passing well to each other. Clara had several attempts on goal which unfortunately went wide. She persevered very well though, and her effort paid off with a fine goal. Katherine, who is completely new to hockey, played exceptionally well in defence coming forward and clearing many balls. Sophie and Isabella tried hard in midfield. The second half was just as competitive, and no additional goals were scored. The final score was Cargilfield 1: Loretto 0. I was extremely pleased that the girls were spreading out and finding good spaces. Super improvement!

The Tigers played the Loretto U10A, which was a bit of a challenge for most of the girls. It was quickly clear that they were stronger on the ball and had more developed skills. We did battle hard and Kirsty was tireless as our centre forward. Zanna and Annie in defence were a little overwhelmed to begin with, but they kept on trying and improved over the game. Despite the best effort of our girls, Loretto a scored 4 goals and a further 5 in the second half. Whilst Kirsty was successful in gaining the ball, too often she could not see someone obvious to pass to. We need to learn to be stronger on the ball and in our passing, and to play as a team. Often our passes were intercepted by the Loretto girls. However, I was pleased that we kept on trying right up the final whistle. Final score Loretto 9: Cargilfield 0

After the matches we all crossed over to Newfield to have a sandwich and drink before going home. Lots to learn girls, but super effort today. Well done!
