U9 Hockey v Fettes

Tigers won 6:0

Cargilfield U9 girls played their first match against Fettes this afternoon in mild windy weather. The matches happened at the same time which meant I could only see one match. However, both teams played very well. In the Tigers match some fabulous passing between, Kirsty, Clara and Izzi enabled four early goals. It was clear we were the stronger team, so Clara swopped with Sophie. In the second half we offered to mix the teams but Fettes chose instead to play two extra girls, playing 7 against Cargilfield 5. It did balance the game out and particularly Annie was working hard in defence, but we were able to win the ball quite easily, and Clara scored 2 further goals. Final score Cargilfield 6, Fettes 0.

In the Lions match Isla and Arabella worked hard upfront and Arabella scored three goals. Lotte played well in midfield, scoring also. Isla gave a great captain’s pep talk apparently. Final score Cargilfield 4 Fettes 0.

After the matches we played two friendlies, the Fettes girls who had played last year against 5 of our girls and our remaining 5 against the rest of the Fettes squad. Apparently, we won this game also. In the other match Flora from Fettes played for us so that we had 6 versus 7 Fettes girls. Unfortunately, we could not get past the purple wall in the goal to score, and we conceded a goal, losing the match 1:0.

We had lots of fun playing Fettes and as usual we enjoyed a super match tea! Well done to all of our girls. I was especially pleased to see better spacing and passing.
