U11B Rugby beat St Mary’s

Some great rugby in the rain!

In the driving rain the U11Bs put on a terrific display of schoolboy rugby in Melrose. Given the conditions, the handling was superb with some offloads of high quality combined with evasive running. Captain, Arlo got us going with a great break through the middle of the field and never stopped moving throughout. St Mary’s were a player down so well done to 6 of the Cargilfield boys who rotated into their team and gave it their all. Particularly impressive today was Torin who took the ball forward into contact but always managed to get it back to a teammate whether it was before the tackle or after he was grounded. Oliver was an outstanding support runner, popping up everywhere to take a pass and our wingers, Blake and Timothy showed electric pace and got themselves on the scoresheet a couple of times. Arthur and James were leaders both in attack and defence and they, along with Arlo, performed particularly well when playing for the opposition. Seb, Stuart and Salman demonstrated, for the second game running, their good work in the backline by continuously looking to spread the ball wide and all three were committed in the tackle. Bertie’s tenacious running from deep ensured he always broke the first tackle and having been unlucky not to get a try after his foot clipped the whitewash, sealed the 10-4 win with a superb individual try moments later.

Well done to the whole team who showed fantastic spirit in harsh conditions and conducted themselves with tremendous positivity no matter which side they played for.
