U9 Rugby v Ardvreck

U9 Rugby v Ardvreck

A feat of running rugby!

It was a bright, windy and chilly afternoon for the U9 test matches against Ardvreck. The U9’s were confident having been unbeaten so far but we knew Ardvreck would be a tough challenge.

The Owls

Manager – Mr Kerr

We did not start well lacking focus and energy conceding an early try. Our attack struggled to make the breaks we needed to get us back in the game. A real positive was our new defensive strutuce which was stopping a lot of the Ardrveck attacks. Teddy, Jack, Arran and Jamie ran well trying hard to get us back in the game, William and Ethan never stopped running and our initial subs came on to help push for the equalising try, which eventually arrived, it was 1-1. Unfortunately, we conceded quickly and Ardrveck began to play some very good running rugby scoring again. The boys showed great spirit and fought back to 3-2 but Ardrveck continued to play good rugby scoring the final try to win 4-2. Ardrveck played well but the boys should be very proud as they never gave up.

Our 2nd game we were back to are best. Our attack flowed with Jamie showing his blistering pace to score a few cracking tries, Jack drove the game to Ardrveck as did Arran as well as Zac and Daniyal. William’s enthusiasm never ran out and he chased every Ardrveck attack. Our defence held strong only conceding two tries. This time we managed to win 5-2. Well done boys. In both matches we showed real fight and never gave up.

Moment of the Match – Jamie beating the entire Ardrveck team to score in the corner. Also, Daniyal honesty when he did not quite make the tackle and let me know Ardrveck should be allowed their score.

The Squirrels

Manager - Lawson

The boys may not have won their games, but they gave it their all to the final whistle. Due to numbers we provided Ardrveck a player. These boys showed great sportsmanship and gave it their all while playing for the opposition. James especially impressed, stopping 3 Cargilfield tries with fantastic touches. Teddy as always showed more enthusiasm than I thought was possible. The team at the start had a few issues with spreading out and supporting runs, but quickly adapted to the half time talk. In the 2nd half having fixed these problems they showed true growth and resilience. Very happy with the squirrels today.

MOTM: James
Best moment: James running both across the width and length the pitch to make a try saving touch on what I thought was a sure try.
