U13B Hockey beat Strathallan

A nail biting end to the season!

U13B Hockey v Strathallan

Won 5-4

There was a great buzz of excitement on the Gillespie astro today as the U13B girls warmed up for their last match of the season. Even though the opposition had no keeper, they had an extra outfield player to contend with.

The game started off pretty slowly for both teams but after the first quarter, Cargilfield started to find a bit more width and depth on the pitch. Just as we were building momentum, a quick hit-out from Strath led to us conceding our first goal. Our opposition managed to score an unlucky second goal shortly after the first, due to a lapse in our concentration.

We were down 0-2 going into the second half, so we decided to alter our game plan and have one of our players hanging in the D. As a result, we managed to score three goals quickly after one another. Our defence was solid in the third quarter, and the midfielders were running their hearts out to track back and help the defenders.

Victory wasn’t in sight yet, even though we entered the last quarter with a 3-2 lead. The girls gave it their all and played their best hockey of the season. They made excellent leads into space and passed the ball accurately to each other by using clear communication. It was a nail-biting finish as both teams scored two more goals in the last 10 minutes of the match. However, Cargilfield managed to keep the lead and finish with a win.

What a fantastic way to end the hockey season! Throughout the term, each player has grown in confidence on the astro and the team has really progressed as a unit. Congratulations on a well-deserved victory, girls!
