U11 Netball lost to St Mary's

A tough first game of the season

First game of the season down in Melrose against St Mary’s. The weather was bitter and the girls worked hard to stay motivated. Melrose were a feisty, tall and challenging team wanting every ball. Cargilfield were playing catch up after a long bus ride and lack of a good warm up in advance of the game!

The first quarter started off with St Mary’s scoring the first goal, a very low scoring quarter. The team was trying hard to keep possession of the ball but preferred to wait for the ball to come to them which allowed St Mary’s to intercept. St Mary’s height was also a great advantage to them with many lobbed balls to move them up the court. Our defence had to work hard with Livia, Zinnia and Isla working the ball up the court but need to work on their accuracy, speed and dodging. Florence in center ran her socks off to escape her opposite player that was stuck to her like glue! Our attack of Clara, Eleora and Alice worked well as a team working into our shooting circle and now need to work on their positioning getting infront of the opposition. Alice scored 2 goals and was awarded player of the match with St Mary’s scoring 9. Lots to work on in the coming weeks as there is so much great potential.
