Lost 17-18

The first fixture of the season saw an incredibly hard- fought battle against St Mary’s. This early in the season, we had only had a couple of training session and many of the girls had not yet settled into their positions.

Both teams started strongly. We had the centre pass and took advantage with an early lead with a goal by Miranda. St Mary’s quickly fought back and we pretty much matched each other goal for goal. Athena and Ceci were a good combination in defence and worked well together although the St Mary’s shooters were formidable.

Emily B was fabulous in the Centre. She pushed on and played all four quarters at a really fast pace and moved tirelessly around the court creating space for her team. She was well supported by Emilia DH, Olivia and Freya on the wings.

Th match continued in much the same way. At the half way point we were drawn at 9 all. Both sides were poised for any slip by the other and there were a few on each side. Isla G took over in the circle and defended well as GK. Both teams really needed to slow down a bit and consider their options before sending on the ball. Playing at such a fast pace produced some errors on both sides.

In the last quarter, Nadia switched to WA and started to make an impact on the wing. Emilia DH supported Miranda well as GS. St Mary’s edged ahead by one goal. The whistle came a few seconds too soon as we were poised to level the match ….
