U11A and B Hockey beat Merchiston

Well played, boys!

We had two great games against Merchiston today as well as a little mixed up Cargilfield v Cargilfield game in between to allow Merchiston boys a bit of a rest.

The A team played Merchiston first with some really impressive hockey and scoring lots of goals. Jamie deserves a particular mention for the quality of some of his finishes and picked up the player of the match award today. We might have been guilty of a little bit of complacency in front of goal on some occasions – picking the wrong choice of shot when the simpler push into the corner was a better and probably more reliable one. However, the build-up and play around the back was excellent and we enjoyed playing on a slightly wider pitch and playing 8 a side allowed a better transition of the ball through Arlo and Miguel in midfield. Jack also had some nice early passes which exploited the space in behind.

After our Cargilfield v Cargilfield cameo game, our B team came on to play the same Merchiston team and enjoyed a closer encounter now that Merchiston were moving the ball better. Oliver was as lively as ever and Stuart made some well-timed tackles. Seb was busier in his second match and made some great saves. The boys looked to move the ball wide when they could and weren’t afraid to pass the ball around to find the space. We had been working on 2 v 1s and 4 v 2s this week and the boys looked comfortable in possession. It was tighter game but we came out as winners in the end.

Well done to all the players who are really developing and improving every week!
