U11 Hockey v Sedbergh

Lots of great hockey on show

Sedbergh came up north for their annual visit ahead of the IAPS Qualifiers and all the Form 6 boys were given a game against them.

In the first match, the IAPS team put in a great performance, moving the ball slickly and pressing forward. Monty’s runs infield off the left wing were particularly effective and the front players were clinical in front of goal. Jamie’s rocket of a reverse hit was the pick of the strikes in the first half but the build-up play throughout was strong and the boys kept the ball well. The moment of the match for the visiting side was the Sedbergh keeper making a wonderful diving stick save, low to his right from Lochie’s fierce shot in the corner. However, the forward managed to get his goal just later with an outstanding strike high into the roof of the net

Our B and C players were mixed up to form two even teams. The first team won a great match 3-2 thanks to some strong play from Jack, particularly in the second half where his movement stretched the defence and he looked to link up with the wide players. We were a bit tame in front of goal and needed to be shooting with more conviction. It was end to end with neither side managing to get away from the other on the scoreboard. The winning goal was scored by the captain, Stuart moments after Monty had had to make numerous saves in goal. His final save was a huge kick up field and got through to Stuart who placed his shot, coolly in the corner.

By the final match, Sedbergh had really improved and were a big threat going forward. Seb was having to make countless saves but could do nothing about the goals where our defenders just switched off and left two Sedbergh players free at the back. The boys didn’t lose fight and kept working hard, particularly Ethan, but Sedbergh played some nice hockey and deserved the 4-1 victory.

Thank you to Sedbergh for coming up to give the boys a game and good luck tomorrow!
