1st Team Hockey IAPS Qualifiers

Won!!

Today marked the IAPS qualifiers at Fettes, where we faced the challenge of a clear yet cold day, knowing our A game was crucial for qualification. Cargilfield's first clash against Asygarth, a formidable opponent, saw a strong start, applying pressure that eventually led to a goal, securing a 2-0 victory.

The second game against Ardvreck showcased our team's simple yet effective hockey, scoring multiple goals and securing another win, setting a positive tone for the tournament. The third match against Belhaven presented challenges, forcing us out of our shape into scrappy hockey, but we managed to secure a hard-fought win with a late goal.

Facing St Peter’s York in the fourth game, we started strong with a well-worked goal, though they made a comeback. Through excellent defending, we clinched the win. The last group stage game against Strathallan ended in a positive 2-0 victory, ensuring our top position in the group.

Advancing to the semi-finals without conceding a goal, the team, in high spirits, faced Sedbergh with an understanding of their playing style. Despite a nervy start, we regrouped, scored a couple of goals, and secured a 4-0 win, earning a spot in the final and the national finals at Repton.

In the final against Fettes, seeking revenge for a previous defeat, we adhered to the game plan, scoring two fantastic goals in the first half, showcasing brilliant build-up play, teamwork, and individual skill. Fettes managed a comeback in the second half, but our boys held on, securing the gold medal.

Congratulations on an outstanding day of hockey, tallying an impressive 15 goals while conceding only 1. Well done!
