U13C Boys’ Hockey v Merchiston

Lost 3-2

A sunny but very windy afternoon over at Merchiston as the U13C team took on two Merchi teams. The boys were raring to get going and having set upon their formation, we very quickly went ahead and the goals kept on coming. Leo S scored all five goals, but the build up play was excellent with Sasha and Maxi out on the wings, and William and Senuka bossing the midfield. At the back, Leo and Max made sure our goal was protected and they fully deserved the win.

After a fifteen minute break, we played a different Merchi team, and this team it was a real game of nip and tuck. We tried to play out from the back a bit too much rather than getting the ball quickly upfield and we fell behind early on in proceedings, but then scored two fabulous goals, one by Sasha which was the goal of the day with the ball transitioning well from defence to midfield, then out wide on the right to Leo who fired in a great cross for Sasha to fire it home. But we were unable to stay ahead and after conceding two goals, we had a golden opportunity to draw the game in the final few seconds but their goalkeeper made a terrific save as the ball looked goal bound!
