With a handful of players away with the Saltires or unable to play, it was a new look 1^st team that took to the court against Loretto this afternoon.

Nonetheless, the Cargilfield team started strongly and a feature of their play throughout the afternoon was how fluently they moved the ball out of defence to create attacking opportunities. Gabriella, who was captain for the afternoon, linked effectively with Scarlett and the Loretto defensive pair struggled to keep them in check.

They were ably supported by Freya, Emily and Olivia who moved the ball quickly in midfield – despite the skills of a strong Loretto centre - and choked the supply of ball that Loretto could claim. When Loretto did get into the circle, Athena was especially strong in intercepting or breaking down play and Lottie dominated the rebound.

Cargilfield broke in to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and continued to score steadily until they were 10-1 up after the third quarter. The whole team changed positions in the last quarter and proved their versatility by regaining this fluency in the last quarter.

If the score appears one-sided, the to-and-fro of the game would suggest otherwise. Well done to Scarlett: named as Player of the Match by Loretto.

This may be my first and last opportunity to take the 1^st team for netball. The girls were a delight to manage and I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon with them.
