Support for Learning Department

We are here to help!

The Support for Learning Department offers support to Cargilfield pupils for a variety of reasons and in a variety of different ways, and support can be for social and emotional needs as well as learning needs. Support might be offered to a child on a one-to-one basis, as part of a small group, in the classroom setting, or indeed any combination of these options. All children’s needs are different, so support is carefully tailored to take account of each child’s individual circumstances.

A child’s additional support needs might be short term or long term. Short term needs might include a child requiring a boost to their learning - for example, in the run-up to examinations - or perhaps experiencing friendship issues. For longer term additional support needs, such as dyslexia and ADHD, support is more likely to be ongoing. It is not a given, however, that a child with a Specific Learning Difficulty or neurodiverse profile will receive support; interventions are needs based rather than diagnosis based.

If you have any concerns about your child’s learning or their social and emotional needs, please do speak to your child’s form tutor or the Support for Learning department. The department periodically host Meet and Greet meetings, which is a lovely, informal way to learn more by joining the Support for Learning teachers for a coffee and a chat. If anyone would like to discuss their child’s needs with the department individually, meetings can be arranged separately at a convenient time.
