U11B Cricket lost to St Mary's

A good game of cricket!

U11B Cricket v St Mary’s

Lost by 24 runs

The weather was a pleasant 17°C with a steady but gentle breeze as the U11B cricket team welcomed St Mary’s onto the Gillespie Astro - great conditions for an afternoon of pairs cricket.

The visitors opted to field first, so the Cargilfield boys picked up the bat, with Seb and Finlay making a concerted effort to contribute to the team, communicating well with each other in their four overs and made some good connections of bat on ball. Michael and Ethan then took their turn. They were recipients of a high number of wide balls, but managed to seize their chances when they came. Michael, who was captain for the day made the shot of the day - a cleverly timed and weighted late cut, which rolled away down to the third man boundary. Freddie and David had a very profitable innings - David worked out the value of scoring behind his wicket, where there was more room, and the boys communicated excellently to seize their chances as they came. Freddie contributed with some smooth strokes too. Finally, Oliver and William took to the crease - their ability to ‘steal’ runs became the hallmark of their innings, notching up 10 singles, amongst their other runs, some of which were definitely not for the fainthearted! They completed their four overs unscathed with the team total on 61 runs - not a huge total but still defendable.

The boys made an admirable job of the fielding, with Seb and David conceding the fewest runs in their overs. Sadly, the boys were not able to take all of their catching and run-out opportunities, and we probably conceded too many extras too, which meant they couldn’t reign in the advancing total of the opposition, who eventually ended on 85. Nevertheless, the boys can be proud of their efforts and this match has provided some valuable experience for the whole team. Well done, boys.
