Lots of learning this afternooN!

U11B Rounders V St Mary’s Melrose

Lost 15 ½ to 4

Glory as our captain, put St Mary’s into bat first and we started off steadily with Glory bowling herself. St Mary’s looked strong from the outset with several strong hitters. We struggled to get the ball to the posts in time to get them out and despite our best efforts they scored a super total of 11 ½ rounders off 30 balls.

We went into bat keen to do well but unfortunately, we were unable to hit the ball any distance and 5 girls were stumped at second. St Mary’s fielding between backstop and second was excellent and we did not give ourselves time to get even to second. Florence proved the exception by scoring a rounder. We managed only 2 ½ rounders off 26 balls. We had no one left to play the final balls and St Mary’s were not playing stump the box.

We did pick up our fielding in the second innings holding St Mary’s to four rounders and managing to get seven girls out with improved decision making and more accurate throws. This was pleasing progress and a good effort.

We returned to bat determined to improve our totals and whilst we managed to hit all the balls, it was only Florence and Jemima who scored. We were soundly beaten by a better team but we did try hard. To improve we will need to hit the ball more consistently and be sharper with our fielding.
