U12 Rugby drew with Edinburgh Academy

U12 Rugby drew with Edinburgh Academy

A super team performance!

On what was a mild Saturday morning, the U12 rugby team headed over to New Field to take on Edinburgh Academy, which is always a challenge with their larger numbers, but with a few reinforcements from the U11s, the boys were confident that they would more than hold their own and compete against the large EA squad.

It was a very close and competitive game of rugby, with both sides looking to move the ball wide and in to space, whist we also had the big ball carriers to run hard and straight and provide much needed forward momentum for the team. We recycled the ball well and most of the play during the first half took place near their try line, but they managed to score as well so we went in to the interval at two tries apiece. It was great to see us moving the ball well and also being disciplined in defence with some good tackling by everyone.

We got our noses in front at the start of the second half, scoring a well worked try out wide, but then EA came back and managed to score a couple of tries after we had been camped in their 22m, but with the clock running down, we carried the ball really well, it was recycled quickly and Theo nipped down the side of the ruck to jinked his way over to draw the game in what was the last play!

A draw was a fair result and the large crowd of spectators thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle, and the game was played in an excellent spirit by both sides. I was delighted with how all the boys came together as none of them had played the U12 laws before, so to play such terrific rugby was tremendous to see.

Very well played indeed, boys!
