U9 Netball beat St Mary's

Well played, girls!

Won 3 - 0

The under 9s played their first match of the term and second of the season against St Mary’s. After a long bus ride, Cargilfield played a phenomenal game! The girls do not have set positions but rather switch every quarter giving them the full experience of the game.

The first quarter started off with the girls getting a feel for their opponents and remembering what it is like playing in a more competitive setting. Some players on the St Mary’s team were quite a bit taller than our girls, but they did not let that intimidate them. Sophie started us off with a bang and scored two incredible goals in a row. She has been practising her shooting, so this is a big step for her! Arabella was quick with her passing, which was ideal given she was centre.

The girls kept going with some awesome defence and they found their space very well. Although they struggled a bit with their passing, the under 9s showed us a couple of drills we did in our practises in real time. In the second quarter, Isla and Kirsty worked hard in defence and managed to stop a number of St Mary’s attempts, with Clara helping to transition the ball back down to our goal.

The Cargilfield girls dominated the remaining quarters with some great interceptions and inspiring teamwork. Lotte and Izzie worked well to pass the ball and dodge their opponents. Isabella was a feisty GS and continued to prove a problem for St Mary’s. Likewise, Zanna and Kirsty dominated the fourth quarter in goal, meaning our poor defenders were very cold standing still much of that time!

The two coaches decided on having a fifth quarter and Sophie scored another goal. The final whistle blew and the cold and tired girls shook hands and did three cheers for their opposition.

Well done to the Under 9 netball team on an incredible win!
