Junior Hockey v George Heriot's

Lots of goals and lots of fun!

We welcomed George Heriot’s P5-7 teams to Cargilfield on Saturday morning to play our U9, U10 and U11 teams. In perfect conditions, the boys enjoyed a terrific morning of hockey watched by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.

The Under 11A team played well but took their time to break down the visitor’s defence due to attacking down the left too much. However in the second half of the first period we had a flurry of goals by passing down the right which opened up the space. We scored lots of goals including a cracker from Jamie at a narrow angle from the edge of the D. Monty K, Hamish and Lochie proved our attack was strong and composed to get their names on the scoresheet. Heriot’s had some good chances themselves but Geordie was outstanding in our D, leading the defence brilliantly and James looked comfortable at right back with his calm defending. Arlo also impressed with a cameo performance in defence in the last 5 minutes.

The U11B team had a closer game with Miguel bossing the midfield in the first half before moving across to the A game. Monty K was strong on the ball and Monty S was lively with his movement. The game was end to end but the home side was much improved in the second half with Seb commanding his D, thus preventing the Heriot’s strikers from getting their shots away. Stuart finished off the scoring with an accurate shot into the corner of the goal.

The U10 games followed and a similar pattern emerged with the A team having a comfortable victory thanks to some wonderful hockey and showing the future continues to be bright her at Cargilfield. Nick was particularly impressive with his distribution into the wide channels and Tommy finishing well, particularly from the top of the D. Well done to U9s who helped out both teams who were one player short: Faris played the first half for Heriot’s before heading over to the B game to play for Cargilfield’s B team and Teddy took over from him for the visitors, scoring two great goals against his brother and friends!

The B team had a tricky first half and took a while to get into the game. At half time it was 3-1 to Heriot’s but across came Faris to play for us and the team had obviously listened to Mr Taylor’s advice of lifting their heads before passing as the second half was a different story altogether. With lots of pressure through George’s attacking down the right, the Heriot’s boys had to defend for much of the half. We just couldn’t hit the ball hard enough to get it past the last defender and into the goal but success eventually came from passing to the free players in space who had tap ins to complete a remarkable comeback to win 5-3.
