leftColBody | We’re off to sea in a pirate ship! What a wonderful afternoon was spent this afternoon aboard the Plastic Pearl. Our P3 pirates went searching for plastic bounty whilst sailing the high seas! They came across the Pompous Puffin on a cruise and stole all their plastic. The captain was cast aside by some mutinous pirates before he realised the damage of his plastic ways! With the help of his trusty parrot Polly Styrene, he regained his post as captain and convinced his pirate crew to change their plastic ways and start to reduce, recycle and reuse. A fantastic afternoon of song, acting and fun. Well done P3!! Read more here. |

leftColBody | What a lovely afternoon for hockey: the sun shone and the quality of the boys’ hockey matched the conditions. While the Fettes team were less experienced than our boys and struggled to get out of their own half, they did keep trying the Cargilfield team did well to pass the ball around and to create space. I was impressed by some of the close skill from Conrad, Zac and William while Paddy and Kit showed good positional play and good judgement on where to make a telling pass. All of the squad played well though and merited the 6-0 victory. There is clearly considerable strength in depth in Under 11 hockey and I felt proud to be managing such a capable team. I do look forward to watching their future development as hockey players. |

leftColBody | Wow! What a match the A team had against Fettes! I think it was the fastest Under 9 match I have seen, both teams were playing very well and the ball moved rapidly up and down the pitch, changing direction in the blink of an eye. Fettes were very agile around the pitch, moving into spaces for balls and passing creatively if the straight forward pass was not an option. They were even running in to receive passes- very impressive. They quickly scored 3 goals in the first quarter and, despite Nadia scoring one goal, we were a little overwhelmed. We went into the second quarter determined to mark more closely and to try to improve the accuracy of our passes. We did this very well indeed, intercepting balls and when we did lose the ball, we tried to get straight back onto our marking. It paid off as, we managed to get the ball down to Nadia and Emilia, with quicker passing this time, and they managed to score three goals. Valentina’ s height was very useful and she was able to deny Fettes shooting opportunities. They could only score one; we were tying the match! In quarter three, we were very pleased to go ahead and with better control of our passing and determined marking, we helped Emilia score four goals. Again, Fettes only managed one. We were ahead! Fettes did come back in the final quarter scoring two, but Emilia scored again bringing our winning total to nine. We had worked very hard to secure the win, moving well around the pitch, trying hard to keep tight on our player and getting into good spaces. We do need to try to be more creative and to ensure our passes are accurate, but it was a good performance and I was very proud of our girls. Final score Cargilfield 9 Fettes 7 The B team had a much easier game against Fettes, as their team comprised of P3 girls! However, we were pleased to play them and we worked hard at passing cleanly and accurately and tried to space out. We won the first third easily scoring five goals. Fettes improved in the second quarter and we were guilty of sometimes throwing the ball straight to them! We did manage to get the ball to Jacqueline and Isla however and Isla added two to our total. We swopped players in the final third to try to even the score with Jacqueline moving to goal keep, but it did not make a significant difference to the game. We were clearly the stronger team, although we all recognised how well these younger girls had played and praised their effort. Final score Cargilfield 10 Fettes 0. Well done to both teams! Super progress! |

leftColBody | The Under-13C team travelled across to Musselburgh for their second match against Loretto this season. It was a perfect day for a match - blue skies and bright sunshine flooded the pitch. The boys started with a series of beautiful passes, making excellent use of the space out wide and then cutting the ball back in to score three goals in quite quick succession. They continued with this quality of play for a while but Loretto gradually got into the match more and began to disrupt the flow a little. The goals continued to come though, and although the opposition battled with ever-growing determination the match ended with a fairly comfortable win for Cargilfield. Well done to all the boys for their effort. Hugo was named man of the match for his superb passing. |

leftColBody | The girls played well today in their triangular match against Loretto and St Mary’s. We played Loretto first and this was a little bit of a one-sided game with Emma and Charlotte shooting well and the Loretto girls struggling to score. Iona, Ruby and Annabella moved positionally round the midcourt and all played well, trying to move in to space. We changed things around a bit in the final third but still the goals kept coming and we finished the match 14-2 up. The St Mary’s match was much closer and we reverted back to our normal positions for this game. Cicely and Valentina kept the opposition at bay and we were simply that bit too strong for them. We do need to think a bit more about finding space on the court but this is something we can work on going forward. We finished this game winning 9-3. |

leftColBody | The girls played really well in our triangular fixture this afternoon. It is great to see some of the work we have been doing in our training sessions really paying off. In particular we tried hard to remember to give the player with the ball more than one option in sending it down the court. This spread our opposition a little more thinly and allowed us the space to move and to keep the ball going forwards. Our shooters today were excellent and everyone worked together as a team. A special mention has to go to Katinka at GD who was tireless in her marking and focused for the whole match making her a formidable defender and to Josephine who is really coming into her own as a talented Centre. |

leftColBody | Last Friday, Form 7 attended a 'code-breaking' day at Fettes. They day started with a talk from mathematician, Dr James Grime, who talked about his work as a code-breaker. He also brought an original Enigma machine with him - the machine used by the Germans to encode/decode messages during the Second World War. He then set the pupil some of their own codes to crack. During the rest of the day, the pupils took part in activities in history, maths and computer science, making their own codes and learning about the famous spies. Thank you to Fettes for organising such an interesting and enjoyable day. |

They brought what was lacking last week which was the desire for the ball and their movement off the ball. Venetia and Lottie in particular made good runs into space to receive passes. Tunrayo, our captain today shot well and was also a great link player in the fourth quarter. Judith and Esme were also on form with their shooting. Today was a great team effort and a good boost for the girls. |

leftColBody | The 4s were dominant from the start today against Loretto. They have clearly bonded well as a team, as they worked together brilliantly, with long sequences of passes. These were finished off brilliantly by Georgia, Malayka and Arya. Cara was on top form today; intercepting numerous passes and feeding some great balls into mid-court. Lulu was also fantastic in defence. The girls showed their adaptability when positions were changed and they continued to perform well. They should be really proud of their play, which resulted in a 21-2 win. Excellent work. |

Even with all of our helpers, it took quite some time to get two dozen five and six-year-olds safely kitted out to skate. Helmets, elbow pads, knee pads, layers of warm clothing and then finally….. the ice skates. Everyone tried their hardest to skate well, but also loved tumbling on the ice. They had fun watching the adults try to master the conditions too. “When are you going to fall?” was my favourite question; there was no doubt that it was a when not an if! Read more here. |

Read more here. |

image | /cms/resources/dsc01528.jpg |
imageAlt | Cargilfield |
leftColBody | What an exciting start to this half term with the arrival of the Generation Science Team doing a workshop for P2 on the movements of the Sun, Moon and Earth, and how they create day and Night. Our puzzled storytellers Benny and Jack wanted to find out why some children wake up just as others are going to bed, and we wanted to find out whether the Sun really does move across the sky. So we set off together on a journey to find out the answers. With the help of a range of colourful props we discovered that the Sun, in fact, does not move at all! In fact, it is the Earth that is spinning on its own axis meaning that some countries are facing the Sun, hence day, whilst others are in shadow, hence night. We were also amazed by the fact that, not only is the Earth spinning but that it is also orbiting around the Sun at the same time, and that the Moon has to keep up with the Earth as the moon is orbiting around the Earth too! We even found out that the moon takes a month to orbit the Earth, and that the Earth has to turn 365 times before it even goes around the Sun once! Wowee! I think we might leave the orbiting to the planets next time! Back in the classroom we made our own miniature models of the Sun, Moon and Earth to recreate this ‘orbit’ dance. We challenged ourselves to work this out completely on our own, and we all succeeded in solving the puzzle making some fabulous orbiting models! Read more here. |

leftColBody | If a child is experiencing any kind of difficulty in school, it can be a worrying time for parents. Concerns about progress in learning should be discussed with Form Tutors in the first instance; Form Tutors may then seek advice from the Support for Learning Department. In many cases, appropriate support can be put in place to help a child to overcome their difficulties. Barriers to learning can be experienced for many reasons so if a child’s difficulties persist, then the next step may be to seek advice from an Educational Psychologist. Educational Psychologists have training in child development and how children learn and process information, alongside an in-depth knowledge of the education system. They are able to carry out testing to assess any difficulties and identify strengths, then offer advice based upon their findings. The best outcomes for a child’s learning are achieved when parents, school staff and any outside agencies work closely together; for this reason, Educational Psychology assessments should be arranged through school. An approved Educational Psychologist is then able to come into school at an agreed time, observe the child in their normal place of learning and gather information by speaking directly to teachers and looking at classwork. The procedure at Cargilfield is as follows:
The information gathered from an assessment often proves to be invaluable in supporting a child in their learning and helping them to achieve their full potential. |

perch_leftColBody | In Roman STEM club on Wednesday evening, we started the process of making papyrus. Firstly, we soaked the papyrus strips in a mixture of water and glue, then created a sheet by overlapping strips horizontally then vertically. Finally we put them in a press ready for next week! leftColBody | Our B team played terrific passing hockey against Ardvreck and were too strong against the visitors from Crieff. Our layoffs for players to run into space were superb and we took our chances well in front of goal. The boys worked really hard as a team and had a great spirit about them. The pick of the players were Hayden on the left wing and Chay, who continues to be a goal machine, scoring 7 in this match! Well done, team!

leftColBody | We brought two Under 9 teams to play in Ardvreck’s small sports hall, happy to keep out of the rain and the cold wind. Team 1 We had learned last visit to reign our passes in as the court is very narrow. Ardvreck have some fine players but the recent work we have been doing on marking paid off and we often reduced their passing options. Our shooters were on great form and fast accurate passing got the ball to them, maximising our chances. Ardvreck defended well though and we had to pick up our speed to succeed. Savannah, Aglaya and Nadia made a great attacking three and Isla played her part also. Gabriella and Beatrice battled to defend the goal and we only let 2 goals pass us. Jacqueline learned to dodge to get into a better space and scored 2 fine goals, Nadia scored 4. Final score Cargilfield 6 Ardvreck 2 Team 2 Again the marking was very tight and although no goals were scored in the first quarter, we got going and starting working very well together as a team. Our new shooting pair of Emilia and Valentina worked very well indeed scoring a combined total of 7 goals. Bella and Malysa worked hard to get the ball to them and Bonnie was very good at base line passes. Bonnie scored the final goal. Millie and Emilia also worked hard although Millie found it very frustrating having to deal with defenders’ arms across her body and Emilia M got a sore ball in the face. She took some time out, thanks for Isla for stepping in, but came back in and worked hard. Final score Cargilfield 9 Ardvreck 3 Well done, girls. I was very pleased with your effort and good team work today. Good improvements! |

leftColBody | On what was a bitterly cold afternoon at Merchiston, our two teams played two matches each: U9 Wolves - beat Merchiston U9s and Fettes U9s U9 Tigers - lost to Merchiston U10s and beat Fettes U9s Playing on astro and on a larger space meant the boys could pass the ball better and move in to space, and I was impressed with the teamwork and skills on show from all the boys who played today. We were much more skilful and determined than the other three U9 teams from Fettes and Merchiston, and it was only when we played a bigger and more aggressive U10 team from Merchiston that we struggled a little bit, although had opportunities to score. It was a good test though for all the players and the delicious match tea afterwards was the perfect end to a super afternoon of hockey. Well done, everyone! |

We had some good sequences of passing, particularly between Anna, Esme and Judith up front but we struggled slightly with our shooting. We seemed to be missing our usual intensity of play and were often second to the ball. Esme was our captain today and kept the team going even when the goals were going against us. Venetia stepped up in defence and intercepted well. Despite the girls efforts, the final score was a 10-2 loss. Lots to work on going into the second half of the season as we look forward to our tour. |

I was pleased with our general play and the way we listened to the advice given during the matches and implemented that advice. Our tackling and confidence on the ball has improved a lot this season. However, our communication with each other and spatial awareness are still areas that we need to work on in training to improve our all-round gameplay. Well done, boys! |

leftColBody | We were delighted to play our neighbours from across the road this afternoon. We had an advantage as Cramond were not used to playing outside and the conditions were cold and damp which made it difficult sometimes to avoid footwork faults. We quickly took the lead but found Cramond to be excellent in defence and particularly strong on their back line passes. However, our shooting was on point today and Clemmie and Charlotte worked tirelessly in the D to take us 3 goals ahead at the end of the first quarter. We marked well in the second quarter but what really allowed us to pull ahead was the pressure that we put on the Cramond girls by some really tight marking. Katinka did well at this and was supported by Valentina and Issy in defence. This continued in both the third and fourth quarters and Josephine was fantastic at intercepting the ball and showed great agility across the court. Cicely (even with a sore hand) and Annabella supported well on the wings. Final score Cargilfield 19, Cramond 5 |

perch_leftColBody | We were delighted to play our neighbours from across the road this afternoon. Final score Cargilfield 19, Cramond 5 |

leftColBody | The Senior Girls travelled up to Ardvreck today and somehow managed to dodge the worst of the rain. We took a large squad with us today as Ardvreck are not quite as strong as us and it was a good opportunity for some of the 2nd girls to step up a level. Rose and Laura quickly found their shooting hands and we quickly found ourselves 6-0 up after the first quarter. It was clear that we really were too strong for the opposition and the game ran away with itself a bit. We made a complete change in the last quarter which was a fun way to play and the Ardvreck came back in to the game a little. Emma L scored her first ever goal for the 1st team which entertained the team, and Rosanna had a few close shaves but we finished the match very much the stronger team. Well done to the Ardvreck girls who kept going to the bitter end and they should be very proud of not giving up. |

They learnt about the importance of the castle's location as well as the different buildings within the castle walls. They were taught how to load and fire a cannon as well as handle some of the different artefacts used - the gauntlet and helmet were definitely popular! Thank you to Edinburgh Castle for looking after us so well and to the children who were so beautifully well behaved! Read more here. |

She spoke about suffering and how we learn a lot about ourselves when we have to suffer and how we are able to come up with solutions and ways to do things better in the future. Suffering brings endurance and endurance brings character and character brings hope; we learn to be braver and more confident in all that we do and we can learn to be more hopeful about the future. The difficult things we have to do in life, that we have to endure, builds character and hope. |

leftColBody | There was much excitement in P2 this week as we were put through our paces trying the various tasks that astronauts might have to perform living on board the International Space Station. We started with the tricky challenge of using our ‘space gloves’. Not the easiest of equipment we realised as we tried to construct a launch tower with bricks without knocking it down. Trickier still was trying to repair some equipment that had been damaged by a collision with a satellite –– not an easy task fitting bolts and nuts with a screwdriver when wearing thick, padded space gloves, and looking through a dark visor at the same time! Luckily we had Mission Control back on Earth giving us instructions and we managed to get the job done. Finally we had the fiddly task of creating a chain to attach ourselves to for a spacewalk. We stuck at this with determination and created some impressively long chains! Whilst there was much fun to be had we came to the conclusion that life must be quite challenging for an astronaut! That being said, I think it’s safe to say that we have a fair few budding astronauts in the making! Read more here. |

leftColBody | Form 4 have been learning about all things "Scottish" in their History lessons and what better way to develop their skills than learning some Gaelic. As a fluent gaelic-speaker, Mr MacDonald, grandfather of Emma and Caitlin Leckie, visited us to give us some phrases to try out at home. He showed us a map of Scotland, with all the place names in Gaelic, and taught us how to say various greetings. He continued to tell us about life growing up in a small village in northern Scotland. The photos were fascinating, particularly when he showed us the local school and its annual school photograph; there were only 6 children! We saw photos of men digging the peat for their fires, as there was no electricity, and the ways in which they caught fish. It was a fascinating insight so thank you, Mr MacDonald. |

perch_leftColBody | Form 4 have been learning about all things "Scottish" in their History lessons and what better way to develop their skills than learning some Gaelic. |

"The Eco-Schools programme engages children and young people in key issues including the environment, sustainability, global citizenship and the value of a low carbon future." (Eco Schools 2019) Cargilfield are part of the Eco Schools programme and are working hard to gain Green Flag status. The Eco-Schools programme has been engaging young people in taking positive actions that transform their lives. From its beginnings in a few European countries, the programme has expanded to effect change in some 59,000 schools in 68 countries across the globe. There has been a lot of overall eco-enthusiasm of pupils and staff throughout Cargilfield. We look forward to plans and developments unravelling throughout the school year. The Upper School Eco Committee felt the recycling bins should be a focus so these have been implemented in the main foyer and will be in the Pre Prep after half term too. At Eco Club, children have been busy creating helpful posters as reminders of how to help improve the environment. They are looking at putting a paper bin in each classroom too. The next plan is to look at the location of the bins and look at how waste is disposed of offsite. The Pre-Prep are very excited to create an eco-club and receive their eco badges after half term. The Nursery have been picking up litter and growing their own vegetables too. There is definitely a green air around school! Children are the future of our planet, so instilling good environmental practice in them is key. What have you recycled today? |

introText | Good team performance, boys! |
image | /cms/resources/img3825.jpeg |
imageAlt | Cargilfield |
leftColBody | The U12 boys welcomed our neighbours this afternoon for a fun game of hockey. We were a stronger team but not by much, with the Cramond children showing some good spells of play. Seb scored after only 2 minutes with Joshua adding to the score line not long after. We rotated all the time throughout the game and the boys did well to adapt to new positions. Murray and Kyan in particular played well, and both boys looked strong on the ball. Matthew also worked hard and used his skill to get past players and move the ball up the pitch. Joshua supported our strikers well and ran hard all match, covering a lot of ground. Seb scored again in the second half and there was a bit of a scramble in front of goal which lead to our 4th goal. I’m not quite sure who is claiming this goal! Well done to all boys who played hard and with great determination. |

leftColBody | Both teams played at the same time and I started refereeing the green team first. The team played well, getting into good spaces and passing quickly and accurately. Savannah’s passes were more controlled and Aglaya, Malysa were successful in moving the ball around and giving Isla and Nadia lots of chances to shoot. Loretto worked hard and had some shots on goal but the accuracy was not there. Beatrice and Valentina were very quick to get the ball moving back down to our shooters. Valentina is getting better and better, intercepting well and making good decisions on where to pass the ball. Both shooters shot well with Nadia scoring 4 in the first half and 2 in the second quarter. I swopped to referee the other match but the green team went on to win the match 12-0. Well played girls. Improved marking and moving more quickly to be in spaces paid off. The red team played with 6 girls. The first half was close with Cargilfield ahead 6-4. Loretto were the younger team however and we started to pull away. It was lovely to see Emilia shoot so successfully. She scored 9 goals in total. Very well done! Bella worked very well getting the ball to Emilia and Bonnie, and Bonnie also scored. Much better balance today, Bella! Final score Cargilfield 10 Loretto 4. I was very pleased to see the improvement in our marking. Well done to both teams! |

From the outset we played some powerful, passing hockey and scored some good goals. It was great to see Jack S make a big sliding save in the second quarter. I was also really pleased to see Monty score a couple of strong goals with a decisive sweep finish. Despite scoring a lot of goals, the boys kept playing well, passing the ball accurately and keeping their concentration throughout the game. Well played, boys. |

leftColBody | Well done to the 4th girls who had a really fun and close match against Fettes today. The play swung from end to end with both teams working incredibly hard. We rotated our shooters and all were scoring well, with Georgia getting 5, Malayka scoring 4 and Arya scoring 3. There was only ever a few goals in it and Cara in particular worked well in the mid court, trying hard to intercept balls and feed them to our attack. Lulu and Lottie were very strong in defence and really stood their ground which was great to see. Wendy made some great interceptions and was cool and calm throughout, rather like Matilda, who pushed forward more and found some lovely wide space to receive the ball in. Well done girls; a great match today. Scores: After 1st quarter: 4-2 to Fettes Half time: 6-5 to Fettes After 3rd quarter: 9-7 to Cargilfield Full time: 12-9 to Cargilfield |

leftColBody | Our U11C after a lengthy wait due to a fixture backlog at Craigclowan took the field and immediately began to control the game through their young front three of Kit, Patrick and Conrad. A superb run and finish from Paddy led to the first goal of the game, this was quickly followed by some intricate passing that led to another and a comfortable half time lead. The second half was a more even affair with Archie called into action after some sceptical marking at the back. This brought Craigclowan back into a game that should have been out of sight. Thankfully our very own Mane, Salah and Firmino (Patrick, Kit and Conrad) jinked and linked to put the game beyond doubt. A superb performance from the team, with Patrick singled out as player of the match! |

leftColBody | On a pleasant day in Perthshire our U11B took on a spirited Craigclowan side. From the outset our boys moved the ball fluently but were guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net. This led to a first half goal against the run of play by Craigclowan. Crucially Cargilfield responded before the half after some good build up. After a stern half time talk, the Cramond men played with flair and movement, resulting in Chay being the beneficiary to some fabulous build up play scoring a clinical hattrick. A tale of two halves and I would encourage the second moving forward. A fine 4-2 win with Chay picking up the player of the match for this week. |

leftColBody | 2nd netball v St Mary’s and Fettes It was our second journey to ST Mary’s in two weeks but we felt we had learned a lot and improved form our performance against them and against Fettes. The 2nd team was a little depleted but we got off to a strong start. St Mary’s were a little more tentative and we played some great defensive netball. Katinka had stepped up from the thirds and played very well with Valentina at the back. On the wing Josephina had some great interceptions and we ended the first third narrowly ahead. Going into the second third ST Mary’s stepped up their game and pulled ahead. It was a high scoring third on both sides but ST Mary’s shooters were clearly on form today. In the final third with everything to play for we played our socks of. The play was fast (on occasion a little too fast) and Clara did an amazing job directing the play from the centre. Bethany worked well feeding the ball to the shooters and both Poopy and Clemmie found their form. It went right to the line but we kept our heads for a well-deserved victory. Final score Cargilfield 13, St Mary’s 12 Our second match was against Fettes. We didn’t have any extra players today so the girls really had to draw on their reserves to play another hard match straight after the other. A quick gulp of water and we were off. The girls knew they were up against a fit and well drilled Fettes side and I was delighted that they committed 100%. They worked tirelessly as a team. Katinka was strong at the back and Valentina found some inner strength to challenge a very tall and accurate Fettes shooter. On the wings Clara, Josephine and Bethany were literally running rings around their opposition. At the shooting end we had to really work hard as the Fettes goal keeping was very much on point. However, we pulled together as a team and pulled ahead in the first quarter. We continued this in the next two quarters and again deserved our second win of the afternoon. Final score Cargilfield 9, Fettes 4 |

leftColBody | It was cold but most importantly it was dry at Fettes, which was welcome relief given the horrendous conditions we endured on the same pitch last week. We played 5 games of hockey against Sedbergh, Craigclowan, Belhaven, Fettes and Ardvreck, scoring29 goals and conceding just 1 – a feat that is truly remarkable and testament to the excellent hockey that we played at times. Cody was instrumental in midfield and attack, scoring many of the goals – not just individual ones but ones which were great team efforts. As captain, he led his team by example and kept his team going throughout the afternoon. Xander, who played in just behind Cody for most of the day was excellent as that central defensive midfielder sitting in front of the back two defenders. He was terrific at cutting out the long balls down the centre and set up some of the goals with great passes. His effort on the field was outstanding today. Harry has worked incredibly hard all season and in the Autumn term. His confidence on the ball grew as the day went on and he was terrific at cutting out any passes, reading the game intelligently and getting that ball away from danger. It was down to him mostly that Thomas in goal, did not have a lot to do. However, our keeper did well when called upon and made some great blocks when he slid out on a one on one situation. Charlie was Harry’s partner at the back for much of the game time until he got the chance to play up front against Ardvreck in the final match and scoring a nice goal. His defensive play in getting the ball away from danger improved after getting lucky in our opening match against Sedbergh when he tried to be a little too clever in front of his own goal. Following that, he barely put a foot wrong all afternoon and was incredibly reliable. |
rightColBody | Maximilian played on the left for most of the afternoon and always seems to find himself in the right place at the right time. He played some passes with his head down and we are going to work on getting that head up to spot the runner but, his effort in tracking back and marking was superb and for that alone he deserves a huge pat on the back. James has been playing in this team for two years now and his pace on the right flank is a great weapon to have. What was pleasing about him today was his variation of passing from early balls as we broke into the final third to set up Charles, to his running to the baseline and cutting it back. He scored a few crackers today from his fierce shots and with more practice, I expect to see those penalty corner shots becoming more consistent. Charles was back to his own self up front and as well as scoring a terrific reverse shot in the top corner against a strong Fettes side, he scored what was my vote for our team’s goal of the tournament against Craigclowan. We built it up down the left from our own 16 where Maximilian found Charles who laid it off to Cody who returned the pass back to Charles who made a forward run and then reverse hit it low and past the keeper. Tom, our only Form 5 in the squad, has the ability to turn defense into attack very quickly with his energy and pace which allows him to skip past defenders. He is working on his passing to make sure it is a bit stronger but his movement off the ball to take up positions in space was brilliant today. Overall, we passed the ball very well as a team and were very clinical in front of goal. At times we might have been a little over-confident and that cost us the chance to score more goals. We are all aware that there will be things to work on ahead of the IAPS Finals on the 18th March down at Rugby but the boys represented their school terrifically today. Very well done, boys. |

perch_leftColBody | It was cold but most importantly it was dry at Fettes, which was welcome relief given the horrendous conditions we endured on the same pitch last week. Following that, he barely put a foot wrong all afternoon and was incredibly reliable. |

leftColBody | There was another close game for the U11Cs today against Craigclowan, with Cargilfield eventually winning 3-1. Isobel and Julia shot well and Athena also had a go up front and proved herself to be just as good there as in mid-court. Dulcie was our captain today and was a key player in defence, as was Sophia who marked well and kept the appropriate distance, which is something that all of the girls have been working on in training. The girls worked hard and made some great passes, we just need to be slightly more clinical with our passing in the final third. |

leftColBody | If the U11As were frantic, the U11Bs were on a different planet to begin with! This wasn’t helped by the noise echoing through the hall but the girls really struggled to find their rhythm to begin with. In the second third, we were a different team. Lucy Sneller was outstanding at GS, using her speed and agility against a girl much taller than herself. At the other end of the court, captain, Amalia was superb at GK, with very few passes getting past her. Although these two stood out, the 3-2 win today was really down to a whole team effort. The girls showed their versatility as we rotated positions. Jessica Brown was particularly strong at centre. A close game with lots of energy from both teams. |

leftColBody | The U11As were home today against Craigclowan in the sportshall. We played in thirds and as the first one got underway, the girls appeared quite frantic without their usual composure. However, they soon settled and began to string together some great passes. Anna worked tirelessly in the middle, winning some great interceptions. Our captain today was Annika, who was strong as ever in defence. Judith, Esme and Tunrayo shot consistently well and are beginning to work brilliantly with Lottie and Anna who help them move into positions closer to the goal. An 11-4 win was the final result. Good job! |

Very well done, boys. |

perch_leftColBody | We have been learning about different modes of transport in P3 as part of our ‘Transport and Technology’ topic this term. As part of the learning we have been taking part in one of the Unicef Playground Challenges to build a car out of recycled bottles and lids! The children have had a wonderful afternoon building their own cars and working out how to attach the wheels to make it work! Well done P3! |

We can’t welcome you to our grounds right now, but we can offer you a virtual tour and we can answer questions via email or telephone. We especially like to chat face-to-face on a video call.
We have places available for 2021 entry in most year groups.
For now, we hope that this video, presented by our Headmaster, Mr Rob Taylor, will give you a flavour of what life is like here at Cargilfield. Our website and social media channels are kept up to date and hold a wealth of information about our school.
Our Registrar, Fiona Craig is available to contact via email: registrar@cargilfield.com and she will be happy to help you. Thank you
