Today P2 visited the Scottish National Gallery and were taken on a guided tour around the galleries looking at landscapes painted by various artists. We were given graphite sticks and did our own sketches of the paintings particularly enjoying the painting by Sir Edwin Landseer of the magnificent stag in “The Monarch of the Glen”. Continuing on the Scottish theme we then walked to the Portrait Gallery and went on a hunt for the famous Scots we are researching and preparing to present next week. We found Mary Queen of Scots in her black dress with lace trimmings, the brave Flora MacDonald dressed in tartan and a picture of Bonnie Prince Charlie (“Bettie Burke” ) disguised as a woman escaping to the Isle of Skye. Our many thanks to all the Mums who helped escort the children through the busy Edinburgh streets!
