U11B Hockey lost to St Mary's

A tough afternoon in the rain!

U11B Hockey v St Mary’s

Lost 1 – 5

As our team photo may attest, the afternoon’s conditions made it difficult to play our best hockey – the wind blew and the rain poured – but the Cargilfield and St Mary’s girls continued undaunted and the game was probably closer than the score suggested.

Indeed, the St Mary’s girls pulled ahead to be 4-0 up in the first quarter and we were rather shell-shocked: perhaps guilty of pushing too far up the field and not working back in defence. As a result, we were outnumbered. Minty was sterling in defence throughout (as she is when playing in goal). Polly and Isobel also made some crucial tackles in the latter stages of the game

Credit to Helena who captained the team and played strongly in the middle of the pitch, and to Florence who covered all of the pitch to try and drive the team forward. Charlotte grew in confidence as the game progressed.

We were all delighted to see Alexandra break through at the very end of the game, receiving a pass from Lily, and open Cargilfield’s account: great determination on her part and a fair reward for all of Cargilfield’s hard work through the game.

I think both teams were glad to get inside for match tea and it is always a joy to host St Mary’s on these occasions.
