Last week, in the opening game of the season against EA, I thought we managed the game very well indeed, considering we had lost the first three games of the season due to the weather the previous weekend. We did not lose a wicket until the 19th over, we retired four batsmen and posted a good score. EA decided not to retire batsmen, and even then we were looking like favourites until the 17th over proved very expensive and they managed to go past our score with 6 balls remaining of the match – so a very competitive game of cricket and we look forward to the return game later in the season. A very good run out for us though, with lots of promise with both bat and ball.

On what was a cold but dry afternoon over in Musselburgh, we sadly lost the toss and Loretto opted to bat first which was very disappointing considering they said they were a little inexperienced at this level. We shared the bowling around 7 bowlers and dismissed Loretto in the 15th over for 27, with 11 of those being extras. Edward picked up two wickets in his two over spell and after two excellent run outs effected by Rafa and Monty, it was left to Oliver to pick up 4 wickets in just 10 balls to bring their innings to an end. In reply, we made very short work of it, with James making the most of some pretty wayward bowling and we reached our target in the 5th over.

A very unsatisfactory game in many ways because a number of boys were unable to have a bat or a bowl, and so hats off to them for fielding so well when Loretto batted. There will be sterner challenges ahead, I hope, and all the hard work that we have done indoors over the winter will allow our batters to play substantial innings, provided we manage to win the toss!

A very clinical performance and a very one sided game.
